Concrete for a Town Built Around Lakes
Keystone Heights is a small lake town in the southwest corner of Clay County, and concrete contractors in Keystone Heights work mostly on homes near or overlooking the water. The area was settled in 1917 as Brooklyn, about a mile north on Lake Brooklyn, by settlers mainly from Pennsylvania and New York led by Pittsburgh developer John J. Lawrence. It was renamed in 1922 for Pennsylvania's nickname, the Keystone State, and incorporated in 1925. The 2020 census counted 1,446 residents and 595 housing units on about 1.1 square miles. We pour driveways, patios, walks and slabs, and repair or replace failing concrete.
Lakes that rise and fall
Lake Brooklyn borders the city to the north, Lake Geneva lies to the south, and Keystone Lake sits in the town center. In the early 2000s many of the surrounding lakes nearly disappeared, and increased rainfall in the 2010s helped Lake Brooklyn and Lake Geneva recover. A Black Creek pipeline project that began in August 2022 is meant to restore lake levels further. For homeowners, changing water levels mean changing shorelines and yards. A slab poured near the water when the lake was low should account for how high it can come back. We think about that when we site boat pads, lakeside patios and walks to the dock.
Sandy ridge ground
The lakes and the sandy hills around them drain quickly, and loose sand is easy to dig but hard to keep in place. Under a driveway or patio, we compact the base in lifts, keep roof and yard runoff from concentrating at slab edges and use the right thickness where vehicles will turn. On sloped lots leading down to a lake, we break long walks into steps and landings and plan where the water goes so it does not carve out the yard below.
Older town, newer homes
The Keystone Inn opened on New Year's Day 1923 and burned in 1954, and some of the town's oldest homes date to its early decades. Others were built during steady growth from the 1950s through the 1990s, when the population rose from 307 to 1,315. Those mid-century homes often need driveway replacement, new carport slabs or rebuilt front steps. We match the scale of each home and keep finishes practical.
Permits
The City of Keystone Heights handles permits inside city limits, and Clay County covers unincorporated parcels around the lakes. Lakefront work can have extra setback or shoreline rules, so we confirm requirements for your parcel before we schedule. We also file the Sunshine 811 locate request at least two full business days before digging.

Keystone Heights Questions
How close to the lake can I pour a patio?
That depends on Clay County or city setback and shoreline rules for your parcel. We check those first, and we site the slab with the lake's high-water history in mind.
Can you build a walk down a steep lot to the dock?
Yes. We break the run into steps and landings so it is safe to walk, and plan drainage so runoff does not erode the slope.
Do you pour golf cart and boat pads?
Yes. We pour pads sized to the vehicle with a compacted base and a slope that drains.
